Nippon Vase - any ideas?
« on: March 16, 2005, 09:36:44 am »
I have a Nippon vase marked w/green "hand painted" "nippon" on the bottom.  The scene is a lake surrounded by mountains w/two animals (cows?) walking toward the lake.
My grandfather has sent this with me in hopes of finding out what it is worth.  Any ideas???

Thanks in advance.

without pics, I can't do much research for you  values have a range   So, two options:  post a pic of the vase and the backstamp, or go here:

www.kaleden.com

select pottery/ porcelain and then on the upper right, "fine tune" it by entering Nippon vase.

What I can tell you is that your vase was more than likely manufactured between 1891 to 1921, when they changed the wording from Nippon (which means Japan) to Japan, (and a bit later, made in Japan).

For your mark:  check out www.gotheborg.com, (an immense site takes a bit to load) and go to Noritake.

And remember condition counts a lot.  Just one tiny chip that hardly shows can skew the value tremendously.  Best wishes, and if I can be of further help, please post back      KB    :)
