Button question

I bought a lot of buttons this summer.  This one really interest me trying to figure it out.  It says 1493 on it. Any information?

I love the buttons and the story behind them. I was watching "Antique Roadshow" and someone had a button worth $5, 000. I think it's fascinating history of the U.S..

What happened to your mug / cup Greenacres ? Is it still with the museum ?

I found out a lot about the mug. The was made in the 1840's. They were manufactured,  but not as we know today. There are 200 of them. They are not known because they are in homes of mostly Jewish families like my mother in law. It's only valued at $350. One has not been sold recently, so not sure what I could really get. The museum was very helpful. Just as interesting I was contacted by an archeologist that I had written to and sent photos. She asked me if she could use my photos and history in a paper. Then she wants to use it for education purposes. I was so pleased to do that.

I love the military buttons.  I got a bunch of the eagle ones in the lot.  I have dealt a bit in WW2 items because I got my uncles items that were returned from WW2 after his plane crashed while going over the hump.  He was in the CBI theater. My brother had them tucked way and when he passed away last year  they were passed to me.  Fascinating items from where he traveled.

Yes, I think everyone will be going through all their old buttons after that,

There are button collectors out there that will travel far n' wide if they hear you have a big box or jar full of old buttons that you inherited from a family member or purchased at an auction or estate sale.

Ya never hear much about those "button" people but just google "button collectors" .... and you'll see how big the "market" is.

Yes - there are masses of collectors for livery, military and other buttons and yet they're usually shoved in a box or miscatalogued by auction houses.

Very specialist subject though and most places don't have the time.
