Antique Trunk Manufacturer
« on: October 17, 2013, 01:16:11 pm »
I recently acquired an antique trunk.  On the outside lid there is a metal plate which reads, Wilmington & Co., Trunks and Leather Goods, Toldedo, O.  I have researched this on the internet with no luck.  Can anyone tell me about this trunk manufacturer or when they were in business?  THANKS!

I think what you have is a trunk by B,B & B. ( Boyd, Boyd and Boyd )
There are adverts from around 1911 online which give a list of retailers where people can purchase these trunks and receive the same guarantee. Wilmington & Co in Toldeo is listed as one of these retailers.

BB&B were a Pittsburgh company and i think were sold and became part of the Buffalo Trunk Manufacturing Company

You might have to check that though. Only spent a couple of mins on it.

Many are marked with the retailer rather than the maker of the trunk !!

Very similar to the one on Worthpoint. There are four images to compare

Thanks to all for the information.  My trunk is original and has not been redone.  There are two small flaws in the canvas as seen on the front.  The interior has two trays which are still in good condition.  On one side of the trunk there is a voyage sticker as well as a label from a railroad which I assume is all part of its journey!  I think I will give it a good cleaning and leave as is.
