Are these doors considered barn style?
« on: October 19, 2013, 05:53:52 pm »
I went to an estate sale today.  I overheard they were destroying the house after.  I asked to buy a couple of the doors.  She said sure and sold them to with hardware me for $5 each.  House was built in the 50's.  It is a beach house her mother lived in.  I went to my car got a screwdriver and took them off the house.  When I said I was going to use them to make a wine cabinet in my basement she gave me 3 bottles of wine that had been sitting there.  I'm like awesome deal.  They are made of pine and I think they are considered barn style but not sure.  Any style thoughts?

Thanks, thought so. Couldn't believe I got the for that price.  Better than them getting destroyed.

I think I'm going to stain them dark.  I'm trying to figure out how to work this guy into it even though a different period.  Got him a while ago and is one of my favorite pieces.

Now that's going to be an odd one !! Don't think pine is going to stain that dark unless you get a charcoal color stain !! Might take a few coats too !! If you have an oil based black paint you can add a few drops to a stain to add depth !!

copious amounts of Black Oak wood stain will darken the pine sufficiently.....in order for it to blend in with that gargoyle looking corble.....but having said that....it seams a bit extreme to have everything looking the same....have you got 2 of these corbles....

I only have one corbel.  Actually I should have mentioned only using one on the wine cabinet the other is going on a shelving unit to make more storage.
