I purchased this old brass and/or bronze & glass document or scroll holder at the TS today and after searching on the internet was not able to find one like it.
The document or scroll holder is about 9 1/2 inches in length. It has a red glass lining in it that has a round glass bottom sort of like a test tube bottom. It seems like the glass may have been hand blown into the brass or bronze case when it was made, I guess like mold blown with the case as the mold.
When I originally saw it I thought it was made to look old since the green patina was very vivid but after getting it home I'm beginning to think it may be much older than I originally thought.
If you put your finger in the glass lining there is a outward bubble where each part of the red glass shows through the metal casing.
There seems to be some kind of markings along the top rim where the lid comes off but they are hard to make out if in fact they are maker markings.
Does anyone know where and when this document or scroll holder was made or anything else about it?
Thanks!
Kevin
