Is mentioning an ebay listing I have frowned upon?
« on: November 01, 2013, 06:54:55 pm »
I have an antique listed on ebay.  Would love to find a good home for it, but didn't want to step on any toes.  Thanks.  Ed

Wow!  Nice item.  Local pickup may hinder the sale though.  Find out what shipping cost.  People will pay a good amount for shipping on something they really want.  I saw the size and will be expensive because of dimensional weight but well worth it to a collector.

I just wouldn't trust ANY shipper.  If the buyer sent their own shipper, that's different.  If I can't sell it in the next week on ebay, I'll just sell it at a local auction house.  I sold something locally a few years ago and did pretty good.  At least it'll be a 'buy as is, where is.'

OK, good to know.  Pick-up by buyer only!  Looks like it's the local auction house.

edit:  Good news.  I just read a great article about how to pack a fragile item.  It might be worth a try to ship it. Just have to find some 7' long cardboard.  Just need to find the boxes before I add a shipping cost.

Why?...i do it all the time...I bought this model boat 3 weeks ago,the seller said it was collection only..I emailed him, and told him i,d be willing to send him a wooden crate, with all the packaging..and i,d have my courier collect it...he agreed, I sent him the crate with the money inside....I now have the model here..simples..

That's a common rip off like icedgold10 said !!  A good way to lose the item and your money !!

Check places like home improvement stores, sears, ect for large boxes !!  They get all sizes !! Might let you raid the dumpster or if you know someone that works there,, tell them the dimensions you need !! They can watch as items are unloaded and grab a box for you !! You can cut it down if its a bit oversize !!

You read my mind.  Just logged on to tell the new plan.  Good suggestion about the "big box"  ::) stores.  Will package the heck out of it, so it's ready to go to wherever, and then have an auction. I'll let you know when it's ready to go.
