copper flagon
« on: November 10, 2013, 06:34:01 am »
Hi,

Bought this from a carboot sale today. For me it is quite pretty and I guess it is not something old as I didn't pay much.

Can someone identify the age?

Many Thanks

I don't really know what it is, so I googled some images that look bit like this and just used the names from there.

For me, it can't be a teapot (unless for suicide), can't be a watering can (as the hole is just too small). So I guessed it is something to do with wine?

 :D

Can you see any usage staining/wear inside?

Coffee making? Could be.

The carving looks like a Dragon, so I am guessing it is something from China or Japan.

They don't really drink coffee until recently, isn't it?

may i suggest you fill it with water..to determine how much it holds, from that last pic, that colour looks like verdi-gris,..although it may have been tinned, and if so, then it has been used as a receptacle, for liquid,

The guy from car boot sale said it is made of copper and brass.

It holds like one glass of water (around half a pint to 1 pint I think?).

Inside is not tinned so that would eliminate food or beverage !!  Doesn`t look like it would have had a lid !! My guess would be something for the bath !! An oil perhaps !!

Mart, I was pondering if it was for oil...but the picture of the spout (if I am correct is flat) would drip down the container terribly after pouring!
