Late 1800's Mahogany Leaved Dining Table & Chairs

Hi All,

I'm trying to figure out what exactly this Mahogany Table & Chairs is - and ultimately what it's worth aswell.

The only date markings I can find on it is on the castors for the table - and those date 1895.

The table and the chairs are in absolutely immaculate condition - they've always been covered and protected - even during use !

There are 6 chairs in total, 4 straight back, and 2 carvers with arms.  All chairs have been re-upholstered.

Can anyone help identify exactly what this table and chairs are and from when ?

What sort of value do they have ?

Hawkeye,is indicating its a genuine..Joseph Fitter.priced at £1500+..but you Mart are saying its a repro...valued at the same price..from my way of thinking..you both can,t be right with the pricing....

The style is a reproduction,, many people do quality reproductions !! Joseph Fitter made the crank mechanism not the table as far as I know !!  Still is a nice table and chairs and would likely bring about that amount here in USD !!

Indeed, the most expensive piece of american furniture ever built was a goddard/townsend desk bookcase which sold for over 12 million in 1989. Since there are only 10 of these desks known, you couldn't buy one even if you had an extra 12 mil to spare however, you can buy a line by line copy for, $50,000.

Well, I,m of the opinion that anyone who spent 12m on a desk,..needs their head looking into,...there are people in this world who can,t feed themselves through lack of food...yet some mega rich plonker can spend 12m on a piece of wood..and not think twice....

I see absolutely no wear, patina or age, except on the hardware. I'm thinking this has been refinished. Patent dates should be good for twenty years, so your 1895 casters could have been manufactured 1895 - 1915.

Well, an objects value is relative and subjective which is why a painting, which is only canvas & paint, can sell for hundreds of millions of dollars. Taking your argument to it's logical extension, you just bought a new car, how many people could have been fed if you had bought a bicycle instead?

Oh,i don,t know about that...there,s lots of expensive bicycles out there,...but...having said that..the same could be said about your love for that wooden box that you bought....it could have kept someone warm..after it was chopped up for firewood....
