Olivia KinGsland she painted it in 1892.  She was from CA.

It is a "dark" art piece!
I personally would have an issues with those kind of eyes...they follow you no matter where in the room you are!  :)

Born in Brooklyn, NY on June 3, 1863. Olivia moved to San Francisco with her family in 1876 and wed James Kingsland, a sea captain. After the death of her husband in the 1880s, she was briefly the wife of a candy manufacturer named Townsend. She was active in the local art scene and maintained a studio in her home at 1518 Franklin. With her daughter, Fannie, she ran an art gallery on Sutter Street and published Variety magazine. It is dark but it has something interesting about it.  I think she was expressing the pain edured. I find it to have a mysterious factor about it.

The subject looks like a person from the 1960s rather than the 1890s. I wonder if there was a sitter or just an imaginary face. Very interesting for the time. Dark? I would say so. Do you know her previous sales history?

The artist died in 1928 so it is dated '92.   I think it has a closer motif to this painting also done in the 1800's http://www.thearttribune.com/spip.php?page=docbig&id_document=36  It was advanced insite for sure.   I don't think it was a sitter because of the unstatuated depiction but I could be way off.  Not finding any sales history for her. Interesting no body??

I didn`t find any previous sales either !! Personally I don`t care for it but each persons artistic viewpoint is different !!

NOTE.. all I did was copy/paste and it showed she passed in 1928...but now it says 1969 on the site!!  Because I was pondering the dates as well!!!!  But on Find-A-Grave sites it says 1928 and that she was buried in San Mateo County, CA.

It may be the artists interpretation of Jesus Christ...cos that,s who it resembles....throug h my eyes........

That was my first impression as well. Reminds me of the Gabriel Max prints, where if you stare at it long enough, the eyes will open.
