World War II - V for Victory photo - Look familiar?
« on: December 01, 2013, 08:18:10 pm »
Hi, friends!

Stumbled across this.  It's in a high-end frame, which got me to thinking it might be something <lol>

In the lower, right-hand corner are the initials H.V.R. with the copyright symbol.

In the lower, left-hand corner is printed "V for Victory" with three dots and a dash beneath it.

Anyone seen anything like it?

Came from an estate.  Dearly departed has no known military service.

Your kind advice is welcome  ;)

Is it a picture or a print?  Copy write symbol is not usually a good thing.  Tends to mean a lot of them were made.

Can we get better pic of bottom half !! Doesn`t enlarge enough to see what is written !!  There were all kinds of things like this going around in WWII !! They were not connected to military service,, they were to keep up morale here in the states !!

For sure a gull!  I live in Maine and know them well.  When my daughter was little eating a piece of pizza down by the beach one came in and swooped it out of her hand mid bite.  She just started crying "he stole my pizza, mommy".  :(

Are you sure the initials are HVR ??  For some reason I think this may have something to do with Eddie Rickenbacker,, the WWI fighter ace !!  He had a thing with a seagull when he was shot down over the Pacific in the 1940`s !! He also had no middle name at birth, but after trying out several signatures he settled on "Vernon" !! And used it afterward as his middle name !!

Very similar. I had a home at the Jersey shore for 20 years believe I know seagulls.  I had one hit me in the head and steal my sandwich. It was good entertainment.  I used to call them rats with wings by the end of the summer!

Thanks everyone for your input.  I'm fairly certain it's a print, and I've included a photo of the lower, right-hand corner which shows the initials.

I know this isn't something that's gonna bankroll my daughter's college education  :D   But, I thought it interesting, nonetheless.  I do tons of estate work and run into some crazy stuff.

My best -- Susan

You may know your seagulls.....but you don,t know your albatross....for if you had..you would,nt call them a  seagull,....cos they are an entirely different species.....a bit like yourself.... ;D

Gulls belong to the Laridae Family of the Animalia Kingdom. They are associated with having heavy bodies, long wings, moderately long necks and long legs with full webbed feet.    Albatrosses are one of the largest flying birds that exist today. They belong to the Procellariiformes Order and the Diomedeidae Family. Albatrosses are known for their large wing-span and their ability to soar flawlessly.  The Albatross are highly efficient fliers and do not require to constantly flap their wings to stay afloat.

Many people confuse gulls and albatross due to their resemblance in appearance. However, these two are completely different creatures.
