Maybe just because the bird is in a "V" configuration!!!

We have a good friend that he LIVED as a kid in High School on Midway Island - Naval Air Station (total of 20 kids in the school).  When planes would come in to land they would all have to run out and scare the albatross away from the runway!  This is the "unofficial" flag of Midway Island bearing an albatross.

This is what the albatross look like at hatching time on the island

Midway is still maintained by the US Govt but is not a wildlife refuge and the naval station was decommissioned in 1978.

That is why the seagull was used KC !! Its written at the bottom, left,, V for Victory, dot dot dot dash !!  Copyright HVR on rt side !!  What I can`t figure is why I can`t find a reference anywhere to this photo having been made !! It was obviously sold somewhere !!  It looks like a sepia or albumin print !!  Drives me nuts when I can`t find something that I know is out there somewhere !!

Seen things like this in the UK though. Masses of different companies in the mid 20th century with periodicals like Picture Post, owned by the Hulton Press Library which was then acquired by Getty Images to form part of their immense database of photographs.

I'd remove it from the frame to inspect it.

You crack me up.  Don't forget the wild west, the tumbleweeds and bank robbers.  Oops...actually around us they have had a couple of those within the past few weeks - still haven't caught the robbers!  :O
