mart if you are online pls take a look at this

I am cleaning out my cupboards and have this proudly displayed--the more I look at it is it an ashtray?

Yep !!  Is it about 8 or 9 in sq ???  Or the smaller size ??

Mart, they actually made decorative dishes like this - mainly for display.  Does it have any markings on the back?
I'm from the South - but please don't mistake my Southern Manners/Accent/Charm as a weakness!

They were used for both !! But the ones I remember were for the coffee table late 60`s and 70`s !! Don`t fret Sugarcube !! These are becoming popular retro collectables !!

hadn't thought of that, it is colorful and really really orange...don't know why it caught my eye but I think we can take it out of the display case...

you should try Scotch Eggs.....and just in case you,ve never heard of them....or would like to try them....here,s what they look like,and also the recipe...

    Boil the eggs, then quickly scoop into iced water. Soft or hard boil them according to your preference.
    Mix together the sausagemeat, egg, flavourings and seasoning.
    Peel the cooled eggs.
    Take a good chunk of mince and pat it out evenly to cover one hand.
    Roll the egg in flour and place it on the mince. Encase the egg, adding extra mince if there's a gap.
    Dip the Scotch egg in beaten egg and then roll it in breadcrumbs to coat.
    Repeat with the remaining eggs.
    Cover with cling film and refrigerate for at least 4 hours to firm up and set.
    Pour the oil in a deep, heavy-based pan, to no more than one third full.
    Heat the oil to 160C - you can use a cooking thermometer to check the temperature.
    Use a frying basket if you have one and cook for 5 – 10 mins depending on the size of the Scotch egg.
    Turn gently, using a slotted spoon, to cook and colour evenly.

A "Scotch 'Deviled' Egg" would be cool, too. ;D

One of the "coolest" things I ever seen served on a dinner table was a "de-boned" whole (minus the bones) roasted chicken.

YUP, the cook removed all the bones before she roasted it ..... but I didn't know that until she started cuttingg off pieces to serve it.
