African figure? Second look

Hi, I posted this some time ago and still curious. Seems to be ceramic?,but the weird thing is my metal detector goes nuts over this,it is signed, and is about 5by4 inch weighing in 11.5 ounce. Sorry for the sideways pics,1 at a time;)

if your detector goes nuts....then its obviously not ceramic...why don,t you take a little scraping from the underside...to determine what its made of...it could be made of resin that has had powdered metal added,....I,ve got a resin doorstop thats had powdered pewter added to the mix prior to casting....

That looks like its cast iron....if not.....then its resin with iron fillings

From the pics posted,....it looks to have deposits of rust on it,.....if its not cast iron..then its either, cast resin with iron fillings,....or it could be a piece of iron ore,..or maybe even a piece of Luddite,...
.but if its non of the above....then methinks you,d better get your metal detector fixed.... ;D

When I was on one of our many trips to Siberia we got hold of a metal detector and was amazed at how many things would set it off that we knew weren't metal!  Seems they were made in Kazakhstan where nuclear testing was done and the clay held the radioactive properties!!!

So, it could be another possibility with whatever this was made of. But it does look "rusty".

Does your metal detector have discriminator mode ??  What is the signature ??
Have you checked it with a good magnet ??

Yes on full disrcrim is faint though,signature from what I can make out is NIKO(L)?A . Other than that I'm stumped, and the square hole in the back of the figure??

Did the scratch test,reddish brown(ceramic I'm sure). So they probably used a metallic glaze I'm assuming?
