My personal opinion is that this is a later reproduction of a Shang Dynasty jade water buffalo, not Han.

Look at this one and note the similar " Greek Key " style decoration to the body. Differences in carving styles of the body though.

well i have been told by the action house that the item has been calcified/Classification (not sure how to say it  )
so for the price they askin do you think should i go for it?

If you are thinking of selling this for profit on Ebay then i would not buy it at this price.
The stone used isn't the most desirable and the risk / reward not great enough.

But that's only my opinion

And I just read about the Canadian auction house that sold a Chinese charger last week. It had a pre-sale estimate of less than $1000...and sold for a million!

Came from the wife of a former MP. Quite possibly a gift from someone prestigious and sometimes the provenance can influence value like nothing else, as i'm sure you know. Hang a £400 painting in the Oval Office during a presidency and you can add two or three zeros to the total.

Beautiful charger with a weird estimate.

The Oriental market is still strong but the subsequent influx of fakes or modern copies has destabilised the market for some items. Certainly worth browsing Ebay for some miscatalogued items.

Looks like a more recent copy of a Kangxi brushpot, not 18th or 19th century

Decoration is slightly wrong ( has someone had a Greek Key / C scroll fit again ?! ) and the base looks poor. The base image is the wrong way up but when looked at properly the top left character mark ( bottom right as you look at the photo as it appears on the forum )  is poor.
Paste and glaze also look later. Maybe early 20th at a push.

There is a similar style fake on Ebay at the moment. No buyer at $165.

Can you see, in the top image inside the listing, where that Greek key / C Scroll border goes wrong round the base ?!
Similar mark including the poor top left character. Similar pitted base.

I'd say value more $80-120 than $1200 !!
