Carnival Glass Finds-help.
« on: December 11, 2013, 10:19:26 am »
Greetings,

I hate to impose, but can anyone help with these recent 'finds'?

I have identified the first picture as Imperial Daisy and Prism berry bowls (4.5" wide by 1.5" tall), but can only find round berry bowls. I can find the crimped edge in larger bowls, but did those come as sets, too? I am looking for value.

The second and third pictures have me stumped! The second picture shows the inside of the bowl (6.5" wide by 1 5/8" tall), which is the only surface iridized. The third picture shows the outside of the bowl. The base color of the glass looks to be red or burgundy when held up to light. I am looking for pattern(s), maker, and value.

Thank you in advance for sharing your expertise. I will continue my hunt!---Onward!!!
------
Okay, further research has discovered that the second item is Dugan Petal and Flower interior with Jeweled Heart exterior.  But I would still like a value! Thanks.

Hi Still working on your berry bowls BUT your second bowl pattern is called Petal & fan  inside and jeweled heart exterior when you measure are you measuring from edge of ruffle that extends the furthest??

Wendy,

Yes, am measuring across widest point.

I have found numerous examples of the Dugan Petal and Fan in peach and marigold in this size, but no purple. Also, those found all have beaded edges on the ruffles. Mine doesn't.

It seems to be just my luck that I'm finding items that don't fit exactly what's posted online...geesh!

Dugan did make Petal and Fan  :)  How high off the table are the edges?   not all of the ruffled edges by them were also crimped, They made ruffled edges smooth like yours also  ;)  Not being an exact fit may be a good thing!!

The bowl measures 1.5" from table to top of highest ruffle. My ruffles are smooth, unlike what David Doty shows at http://www.ddoty.com/petalfan.html . This page also shows one with the beaded edges http://ns1.holidays.net/store/Dugan-PETAL-%26-FAN-ANTIQUE-CARNIVAL-GLASS-RUFFLED-BERRY-BOWLPURPLEFABULOUS_350749195787.html and was last updated last month.

Thanks for your help!

Yes Dugan did smooth and crimped edges  with the size of your piece 6.5 inches and only 1.5 off the table this would be considered a plate. This is a perfect time to show how glass prices have taken a hit with the economy. Book value for Dugans petal & fan in Amethyst 6.5 inch ruffled plate was valued at $700.00 this was back in 2000. This year as you found it sells for $34.99.  :(

Well, prices go down and then they go up! I'm not disappointed with my purchase.  I am learning SOOO much. I got this for the same price that one guy was asking for a very poorly colored peach colored bowl.  Turned on my heel and walked right away from that one!

My husband and I love the hunt. And anything we find and buy must sing to us first. In fact, we've got a trip planned to one local, but out of the way, flea market this weekend.

Thanks, Wendy, for all your help and support.

Hang onto it!! It is beautiful and will at some point go up in price most definitely!! Ok the berry bowls yes they did come in a set both smooth and slight wave edge like yours. As as far as value very hard to say as they are really not selling at this point & time. I can give you the book value if you would like   :)

I plan to.

I seem to find the small pieces; mostly berry bowls in peach.  :-\  I have two granddaughters and plan to give these to them as gifts for birthdays, etc. (I don't think the boys would like them.  :D) Besides, giving them will open more space for me and the least costly ones are definitely cheaper than toys!

Thanks, again!

Went to the Wednesday flea market here in town and bought this Northwood Blackberry Compote in amethyst. I got it from the same lady who sold me the Dugan Petal and Fan bowl. Funny thing is, she not only remembered me from last week, she almost didn't go to the flea market today. I am very pleased, as most of what I find are contemporary items.
