« on: December 17, 2013, 11:09:30 am »
Have these two direct cut metal based records long play . This recording was made   22-12-1958 in America .  Have been playing them some years ago and the voices of the vocals are top voices . So just a simple question today  ;D... I just would like to know where made and who was in it singing . It'se simpel ?

Thanks and I think something must be known from this performance if it was important enough to make a record from it . And life is easy so why not a search to the (almost) impossible could not be easy also ?  :o

They'd need to be fairly important or a large choir etc to perform The Seven Last Words

The place the record was pressed / recorded was also the offices for Broadcasting Magazine.
It was recorded at Christmas 1958 so was possibly intended for radio broadcast as part of the Christmas programme.
There are archives and databases online for that company during this period, Gerspee, so if you really want to know who performed it, google the title of the record and / or the address with dates for December 1958 / January 1959

Also, there's a chance a real enthusiast will know the recording so it may pay to ask on a relevant forum, particularly Haydn or Dubois related.

For instance, a quick Google tells me the Bethel College Concert Choir were performing this in 1958 and were conducted by Walter Hohmann and James Bixel. They known as The Mennonite Singers for a time and performed this on the radio in 1958.

It's possible but you might have to dig around.

Thanks for the tips and must be able to find it now . Must make a new recording off the records because I need to use a older cartridge to play it properly . Good thing I  have a lot off electronics in my house that I have collected during my working electronic years .  There difficult records to play properly because off the difference in cutting . I will also look at a link to Nadia Reisenburg and these recordings .

The Seven Last Words of Christ (by Theodore Dubois). Mono LP vinyl record on Word Records, #W-4002-LP. Sung by The Oratorio Singers, conducted by Clarence Snyder, with pipe organ, harp and tympani. Soloists include Blake Stern (tenor), Lura Stover (soprano) and Chester Watson (baritone).

He said voices, so i'm presuming it's the Choral or Oratorio versions, and you aren't going to have people walk in off the street and ask to perform Haydn.

If I remember right the record is choir and solo singers male and female and Organ + more instruments . At the end I remember a spoken end from the minister ( Thats whats it's called in the States ?  . So I must play the tape again soon to be a bit more precisely .

Does it say anything on the run-out / dead wax area of the record, Gerspee ?

Another long shot is using audio recognition / identification software apps like we have for mobile phones in the UK, like Tune Up.

The question I have is that a studio version record? Instead of the actual commercial version. It looks like it.

Couple more bits

" All audiodiscs had their logo and a batch code number (that's the "A###" number) stamped around the center hole, whether they were for home or professional use. Those sold with a label for home use simply didn't show the batch code information as it was obviously under the label. Audio Devices, Inc. (the manufacturer of Audiodiscs until Capitol took over the operation, I believe in the late 1960's or early 1970's) used this number to refer back to manufacturing batches of disc substrates, acetate coatings, etc., so if there was a problem with a batch they could go back and find out exactly what conditions, materials, etc. the disc was made under/with and try to correct whatever problem had come up. I have also attached ... a scan of the warranty slip that was included in boxes of discs for home use. "

They were bought by Capitol Records in the 60's. In an ideal world their entire back catalogue would be online  ;D  :D

There's nothing in the end space off the records and If there is something it must be under the labels . But all the labels give only the numbers off the recording from 1 to 4 . And the time off recording .
