Someone,s Memory?

I picked this up yesterday,at our local charity shop...it a pewter goblet from Wurzburg,..i got it cheap,£2 ..or $3.20....it was,nt until i got home that i noticed that it had been a gift to someone in the past, as it has an engraving in Old English text around the rim which reads,

LT.Col.Paul W, Middlemiss Many thanks and best wishes, David C.A.Landon

and on the goblet body there is

Beruhmte Weinanbaugebiete
Franken
Deutsches Qualitats Weinanbaugebiet.
besonderer Pragung...
.....translation... .Famous wine areas
Swiss francs
German quality wine area
Special Pragung...


its also got a relief of Wurzburg Castle, and various agricultural symbols...

He was in the KSOB ( Kings Own Scottish Borderers ) in Hammelburg. Now retired and teaching English to firms in Bavaria.

Thanks for that Ipcress.....I was contemplating having the engraving removed...but in light of what you,ve found...i,ll just leave it...but i am going to use it for what it was intended...drinking plonk....the German way....50/50 red plonk and Coca Cola...or Pepsi....Sapphire take note... ;D

That is an awesome goblet!  I have a couple of the ZINN-BECKER Pewter tumblers.  Craftsmanship all the way!
