Intriguing Key
« on: January 06, 2014, 02:47:10 am »
Hey guys, recently this key was retrieved from a clandestine area in Waterbury, CT. I find it fasinating and was wondering if anyone out there had any information that might be of value to me. Thank you for viewing!

Those are called "Skeleton keys" for use with the typical door locks of yesteryear.

Like this recessed mounted one .....

And/or this surface mounted one ....

Correct !!  If you look at furniture of that era you will find that they also were used for anything with a drawer or door as well as entry doors !!

I always have a large ring of skeleton keys.  Folks borrow the ring, take them home & see if any of them fit in their locks.  I sell them for $2 each.  HTH, GG

Many of the antique furniture pieces have skeleton keys!

You can make up wonderful stories of it's origin!  :)
