Blue Vase with gold pattern
« on: January 13, 2014, 09:23:00 am »
Hi,

Hoping someone can help.

Following the recent death of my gran I have been given a pair of vases, they are both the same and I have attached a picture of one. I cannot see any mark or name on them to give me a clue where they are from. Does anyone recognise them and able to give me an idea how much they are worth, if anything? And also does any one have an idea who they were made by?

Many Thanks

Welcome, Laura!

Please give the dimensions: Height and width at opening. Even though you might not be able to see any markings, there might be something there that will show up on a pic. So, please include a pic of the bottom.

Thanks.

Hi, sorry somehow I have 2 posts the same!

The vase is 10" high and the top is 4.5" wide. I have attached a picture of the base.

Thank you

Well my initial reaction would be something like MT Washington glass with chinoiserie decoration in enamels.

A strange combination but they do have something about them !

I assume you are US based ?

No, it's very cosmopolitan on here !  ;D I'm from the UK.

Just that i've seen American glass have those elipse bubbles in them. Also oriental cased glass.

What's the rim made of or is it just gilded ?

Oh excellent I thought I'd found my way to the wrong place!

It looks like the top is just gilded, I don't think it is made of anything else

I've seen Italian and American glass vases like that but that late Victorian, early 20th style polychrome enameling has oriental influences in style and application. Always the chance that came later because i'm not sure someone would make bubbled cased glass and then paint over it.
