Identify dining room set
« on: January 16, 2014, 04:43:58 pm »
I need help identify this dining room set. Any information would help. I have not been able to find anything. The only marking on the set is on the table that says no. 1201. It has a table that looks like it has the option of leaves to be put in and it has a buffet and china cabinet. I can add more pictures if needed. Thanks.

Where abouts are you ?

If this was UK you'd be looking at about 1900-1910.

Would have been a lovely suite at one time.

True Ipcress but you folks were earlier than we were !!  Similar styles,, just took time to get here !! Looking at those legs and stretcher I would say this was probably late teens or early 20`s !! Sheraton style pulls,, more Jacobean revival to me,,but I have heard both terms used for similar furniture !!  Not that it makes a difference in value !!

I'm in Cincinnati but the story is that this set was brought over from Germany. I'm not sure I really believe that. Has anyone seen that pattern before? I haven't seen anything like it doing some research. Any clue on manufacturer or where to look on the pieces. I have scoured them and found nothing on them.

Many manufacturers in the US had a similar style !!  Its a pretty common set !! Almost impossible to find which one made yours without a name on it and most mfrs did not mark furniture !! And like was said,, some of these were brought here in the 70s from the UK,,by the truckload !! My guess is that yours was made here but no way to know for sure !!

i could believe it came from Germany...in its day that inlay work, has been beautiful...and that serpentine shape of the cross bar,..and if that bowl of flowers is inlaid..then..this could well be continental...check the underside of the drawer, and the dovetails and the hinges on the doors, can you take a pic of all....

This one below is lovely and has all the hallmarks of the Sheraton revival stuff.

another

Similar inlay and pulls here

but those clunky legs and stretcher could be American  ;D and remind me of that Japanned cabinet from the other day

I wouldn't have used the term Jacobean to describe this
