Bronze German Crucifix CFXXII
« on: January 16, 2014, 06:24:01 pm »
I was given this at a yard sale this summer because the woman said she didn't feel right selling Jesus.  I think he is bronze? brass??  On the back it has engraved  CFXXII  & Germany.  He is 9" tall.  Anyone know what the marking means?  other than 22?

Do you know what that would indicate?  I wasn't thinking that way.  I was thinking CF stood for crucifix.  lol  Although th CF is above the numerals???  Just looked it up  no F.

I agree with Wull. The holes on the backs of the hands and between the shoulder blades indicate that it was removed from the cross.

It for sure was attached to a cross before but I am stumped by the marks???  Does it pertain to age?  BTW I got the best half.

How close would XXII be in centimeters when converted from inches?

Iced,

Could it be "CE" and not "CF"? CE could mean "Common Era" or, in other words, "AD".  Just following leads.

"CF" is an abbreviation for "Christian Fellowship"; maybe "Catholic Fellowship"?
