Antique Jointed Bit - Need Information
« on: January 19, 2014, 04:55:21 pm »
Can't find anything about the maker of this bit. No marks at all. Does anybody know anything about a maker or history about this bit?

Thanks.

Looks like a version of a "Springsteen Driving Bit". I can't tell you who the maker was, maybe Crockett Renalde?

It is same as the bit Rauville posted !! Not a driving bit though,, its a training bit !!  Snaffle bits are something I never use !!  Its made for working/training a horse in an enclosed space (arena) usually for reining or other competitions !! This one applies extra jaw pressure with those side pieces !!

Blame it on old age...I remembered the name Springsteen, and then went blank. :-[

Scroll down this page, here's a description of how it is intended to work.

You must have had Bruce on your mind !! LOL
There are more bits now than I care to keep up with !! I am not a fan of snaffle bits at all !! I start and finish with a low port curb and have never had a problem with any horse !!  But then again I train one to do the normal things needed on a farm and not what all the TV trainers do !! Most of what they do is simply for show !! Everyone watches the horses sidepass and yes,, its pretty to watch,, but I have yet to find a reason for my horses to run sideways !!  And that nose to the ground really gets me PO`d !!
When you are taught by a bunch of old cutting horse trainers like I was,,these new guys just don`t impress me much !!
