The price one will pay for an item is directly proportional to how much they want or need the item.
And in the case of antiques or collectibles, the price one will pay for an item is directly proportional to whether they are purchasing said item for themself (or a customer) or for resale.
And ps, the difference between the above stated (or
a customer) or
for resale .... is that oftentimes a customer will tell you .... "
if you find one, BUY IT", period.
And thus the reason you often see a "highly inflated" price on an item that was "sold".
I once seen, many years ago, a small (1 qt) "marked" stoneware jug sell at an estate auction for
$185 ...... and people in the crowd were saying
"WOW, I didn't know they were worth that much".
They weren't, ..... only about $20 at the time.
