Prints of Old Maps/Documents in Massachusetts
« on: January 22, 2014, 01:47:14 pm »
Hi

I just moved to a new home and am looking to decorate my walls with some old looking prints of maps and documents.  Does anyone know of a good store (antique shop, thrift store, old book shop, etc.) in the Massachusetts area that sells this type of stuff?

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I do not but we have a member that lives in the area !! Maybe she will be here in a day or two !!  Have you checked ebay ??  That might be an easy way to find them !!

Thanks for the help.  I would prefer to find a store that has them so I can go and look at them "in the flesh" as opposed to online.  I realize this might not be possible though.

http://www.google.com/#q=old+map+store+boston+ma   I don't know what's near you, or the stores, but it's a place to start.

Where in MA are you.  I'm in Maine and went to school in Boston way back when.

You could check here: http://www.aaawt.com/ at Townsend, MA.

(I see they have an original 1635 map of New England.)

Thanks to all those who answered.

I live in Boston but am willing to drive.  Ideally I would prefer to go to a store and flip through the prints/maps to see them "in the flesh" rather than buy them online.

we,d all like to do that, but sometimes the economics of it all far outweighs whats best,...as..it always boils down to how much is this going to cost....its ok if the store is close by, but, if its a good distance away, then your time, fuel costs have to be factored in...mind you..you pay a pittance for your gas...so maybe travelling is ok...but..if you had to pay $10+ a gal, then ..somehow i think your fingers would be doing the driving....

My mother in law's family lived in MA for generations. It's more the Saugus and Woburn area. She is was a "collector" in better words, so we have tons of old documents. Basically from 1880's when her GG grandfather became a citizen from Sweden, to current. You may also want to check out books from Arcadia Publishing. They are the Images of America series, showing historic photos of towns/cities. You may find a few cool pics. If the books don't help I will gladly hunt some stuff down, and send you a picture of items I come across.

Ok, thanks.  Yes they are interesting to read when in moderation.  However, when it seems like may have more then your public library, it hurts my brain and back. lol
