Help identify antique wooden chair
« on: January 23, 2014, 02:18:05 am »
Trying to help someone get info on what kind of chair this is.  It's very interesting, I haven't found a similar looking chair.  Found in Ohio, USA.

I kinda like the design ..... but not the green uphostery.

I'am not one of the Gal's. But it is a Canadian, Peacock chair. Late Victorian.

i,ve just looked at hundreds..if not thousands of Peacock chairs.and none of them ..remotely resemble this one....which makes me think...it might be,   a something else kind of chair.....

The term Peacock chair only refers the shape of the back !! So if the shape fits that's normally what they are called !!  Not unusual for many variations to have been made depending on the mfr !!

Thanks Dewain, I think you are on to something.  It does resemble these garden peacock chairs , but I can't find any carved ones at all.  Also, it looks like maybe a vanity chair since it's so short but other than that I'm stumped.

Looks odd, to me. Like a nursing chair but with an unsuitable back.

Could well be a vanity chair !! You didn`t give any specifics in the post !!  If so they were usually at the whim of the maker as to what they looked like !! They would not necessarily follow a style of the era !!
