Signed Jar still drawing a blank?
« on: January 25, 2014, 07:36:37 pm »
Looks like this is the place to ask questions. :) This one still seems to be alluding me. Any ideas on type, value, maker? Found at a Maryland Estate.

Best Regards,

I've been told it is Italian Majolica and it isn't Italian Majolica.

It appears to be under the glaze and does not scratch or rub off.

The color is actually more blue than black as portrayed in those pictures.

The cork appears to be hand carved and asymetric.

The writing could say anything from italy to tay its hard to make out. Thats why I'm reaching out at this point.

It's looks  like a form of splatterware.  I have many bottle books I'll check and see if there is anything related.

Thank you, but I'm still confused how that helps identify it in anyway? There bust be thousands of stores and I wouldn't even know where to begin.

You don't by chance recognize the signature do you?
