Antique 3 leg Chinese Censer unusual design
« on: January 31, 2014, 08:10:10 pm »
Does anyone know anything about this censer ?  It has 3 almost like beetle shaped legs.  Trying to figure out what the design is and age of it.  Different shape than I have seen before.

Just found out it is a Libation cup.  Still trying to figure out age, what the marking is and value?

Have you looked at the Chinese Jue 3 legged drinking vessel?  They were used for festivals, special events, etc.

Did you ever look at the Jue?

I looked at them and they seem to go somewhat in line with the libation cup.  Still not sure what I am looking at period wise and value.  Any thoughts?

With it's decor it just appears to me to be a modern version.  But to say the least I am not an expert in this area.

It is lacking the taotie (ritual masks) that are typically on the sides of the cups.  It was common to have a dragon as well (which this has).

You can also search Yajue Wine vessel.

I also think the design of the Antique 3 leg is very unusual. The top part of this censer is made from white ceramic and features beautiful floral designs on its surface. These designs give this item an elegant appearance that will look great in any room in your home or office.  I think this design was created because people wanted something that would be easy for them to hold when they wanted to move it around, but also needed something that could stay balanced if someone bumped into it or knocked into it accidentally.

I think it is a very unusual design. It is not as common as you think it is. I have seen it before but not many times. My most favorite are the outlaw leather hats and shirts. I really like the shape of the pot and the lid, it looks very nice.
