China Pitcher

This pitcher was on a shelf in our home for as long as I can remember, so at least 50 years. It's Altenburg China made in Germany. It's fairly lightweight...about 8 inches tall. I'm wondering if maybe my dad brought it back from his time in the Air Force while he was in Germany? But my great grandfather came over from Germany in the late 1800's. Could it be that old? Searches are only bringing up a lot of eBay auctions...no actual information on the products. I guess I'm just looking for any information anyone might have on something like this or where I might find out more. Thanks!

Export mark..."no date known". That's about all I could find there, but thanks anyway!

The text above gives ownership of the company and the marks are in succession according to years used so your pitcher would be between 1935 and 1953 !!  This company used several different marks depending on who was running the company as many others did !! Export china did not always have a company name and like yours was simply marked with the name of the town it was made in or the region !! Very similar to Capo di Monte !!

Okay, thanks! Sound like my dad probably brought it back with him then. He brought some Hummel figurines back as well for his mother, which she left to me and my brother.

The style of your pitcher would say yes,, that it was from that time period !!  And its likely he did bring it home with him !!  Of course it could also have been bought here !!  Exports to the U.S were quite common from many countries during those years !!

Just to show a few!  Averaged between 8" to 12".  No long graceful spouts like tea or coffee pots.  Made in this fashion so you can insert the muddling spoon to stir up the chocolate from the bottom!
