« on: February 23, 2014, 02:58:56 pm »
I bought this but not overly sure what it is.  Has anyone ever seen one of these before?

I sent pics to a pre-Columbian expert he says it's around 200 years old.  But I'm not sure of origin?????

He specializes in pottery pre Columbian.  Maybe he knows it's origin??  Although, it's hitting me as Asian.  Your thoughts?
His name is Edgar Owens he has a site on the web.

It looks very similar to a Caddoan Seed Jar but the flat bottom would rule out an authentic one I would think. I have seen many and none have that.

Yes Mart. Specifically Arkansas. I know the Caddo had a presence in your area of Texas so I can only assume the ceramics are similar.

Ray did you read the tag with that jar,, it said water jar !! And to me it is typically a water jug/jar !! What was written on the right said seed which does not fit the form of this jar at all !! Click on it and read it !!

I did read that Mart. It is still a seed jar or at least that is what they are called. Here is another link that may explain it better. http://www.jimmausartifacts.com/unique-caddo-seed-jar/

This is a Caddoan Water bottle  for Clark Co., Arkansas. It is a Hodges Engraved circa 1400 to 1500 A.D. and is in my collection.]

I would think that a small (> 4" D) water jar/jug would have some means of lifting/holding it with one hand, either a handle or a long neck. ???
