Bought Japanese Imprint Lighter From a Yard Sale.
« on: March 04, 2014, 07:20:36 pm »
Hello all,
I just bought this from a yard sale. I am trying to figure out if it's worth anything. I tried to look up Japanese Imprint lighter and actually found one on Ebay:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1950s-Japanese-Damuscene-Work-Cigarette-Lighter-By-Prince-Automatic-MFG-Co-/400312263625
How do I know that mine is the same one? And do you guys think it's worth that much? I paid $5 for the lighter.
Thanks.

His did not look as good as yours !! But he did have 2 offers,, we just don`t know how much was offered !! You might follow that link and then look at the top for the category,,go there and check for completed sales in the left hand column !! That will tell you some actual selling prices !!
You got a good deal on that one !!

Thanks for the quick reply!
So I followed your advice and looked again for sold, similar lighter and the prices are all over the place. Ranging from $8 to over $100.
I found another one which is similar to mine.

I really don't know what to think.

Well,, that's an asking price not a selling price and its for a set which will sell higher than a single lighter !! I would find a single lighter and just watch to see what it brings !!  See if you can find it on the above link,,might give you an idea !! But even that is not usually accurate because the market will vary depending on who is looking and buying !!

If I remember correctly there were zillions of that style lighter sold in the 50's ..... and the rumor was that the Japs were making them out of beer cans that the GI's were throwing in the trash.  ;D ;D Many cigarette makers had one with their logo on it.

I agree cogar. Even heard they came from earlier than that time but the 50's seemed to explode with these items.

Here's another of sorts
http://picclick.com/1950s-Japenese-Damuscene-Work-Cigarette-Lighter-111277059424.html

In my neck-of-the-woods your lighter would sell for around $25 - $45.

The higher monies go in for cigarette cases and rare name brand makers.

Thanks guys,
I guess I'll just keep it rather than selling it on Ebay. ;D
