Allan Rohan Crite- Found Painting!
« on: March 07, 2014, 01:50:39 pm »
Hi Everyone!

I just found an original hand drawn/painted Allan Rohan Crite (1910-2007) art!
It is signed, titled, and dated 1982! He specialized in African American, Religious, and Spiritual art!

I cant believe it!

The pics uploaded! I didn't think they were going too.

The bad quality of the photo is because of my phone. The colors are much brighter in person!
Mint Condition!

This art is typically not my style but the uniqueness of it caught my eye and I am sure glad it did!

I apologize for the bad quality. Whenever I try uploading pictures from my camera the file is to large so I had to use my phone.

The colors are much brighter than what appears. Mint Condition!
I did some research on this piece and it is rare, in many museums and NY Art Galleries.
Estimated Value: $2,000 to $3,000

I'm from the South - but please don't mistake my Southern Manners/Accent/Charm as a weakness!

I have not taken it out of the frame to see what kind of paper, if I do, is there a way to tell or what to look for?

The title is: Old and Young Wisdom and Dreams

I was looking at the value of it under invaluable.com art auction site.
Also, artvalue.com has the same estimates.

When you search it, it is paired a lot with another work of his titled: Bride of The Sun

It is signed and dated 1982, does not show any marks as being a print as far as I can see.

I am 99% it is an original.

Just took it out of the frame and it is on a thin paper to where you can see the actual ink and paint colors through it.

Can you not upload from your camera to your PC, resize them for web/e-mail and then upload them to this site?

Thin paper would indicate a print,, watercolor paper or other drawing papers would be thicker !! I saw other prints like this one !!  But if I read correctly,,he made some of his own prints !! Are there any numbers on the piece stating the run production ??

No numbers indicating a production print.

To me it looks like it was actually done on this paper due to the variations of darkness on the back. To where you could see more color would be needed to create a darker spot and where his brush strokes would have began. I would think a print would have been uniform on the back if it was 'printed' and not have indicated this detail. But again, I am no expert on this at all.

Can you link me to where you were reading this info? I spent hours looking online and did not see any prints made of this particular piece, it was actually difficult to locate from the beginning.

I did find a few dealers/art galleries who posted wanted ads for his work so I emailed them some pictures. Hopefully I will hear back this week.

I can upload from my camera to the computer and save them. I tried this but they still would not load for some reason.

I am not sure how to resize pictures.

What photo imaging program is on your computer ??  You can use that to resize them!!

What size is this painting ?? The one that you saw that sold was  9 1/4 inches by 7 3/4 inches !! Its estimate was $2000. to $3000.  This is one of a two part set I think !! Couldn`t see what it actually sold for !!
