Rolling Stones Circus Poster... Huge size 180x120cm ?????
« on: March 12, 2014, 04:12:41 am »
Have a Rolling Stones circus poster but can't find any info about it the same one, only know must be dating 1996.
I found a lot similar circus poster but they are all small size. The poster that I have is huge with measurements 180x120cm (6x4ft) and have the text on the bottom reading '' On CD and cassette from the 14th October, out on video on the 11th November''   and underneath the text the logo of the record label ABKCO. The back is printed in mirror looks like a error.
Would like to know if it is a scarce poster so I can value it

I see what you are saying. I find a lot of variations of this but none so large. It is a great piece and I am sure there would be a huge market for it in that size. Hopefully someone who has more expertise and research time can shed more light on it. I was reading how the Who actually upstaged the Stones in that show. I really like it.

That's why I asked,, if the concert was 1968,,that is what it says on front isn`t it,,then this must be a repro and or a re-make for some purpose !! Like I said put "large poster" in your google search and see if all those listed have the same wording !!

It is not a reproduction poster because there were no posters in 1968 of this event. It's about a event that never did go on air in 1968 because it was withheld.

more info: The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus is a film released in 1996 of an 11 December 1968 event put together by The Rolling Stones. The event comprised two concerts on a circus stage and included such acts as The Who, Taj Mahal, Marianne Faithfull, and Jethro Tull. John Lennon and his fiancee Yoko Ono performed as part of a supergroup called The Dirty Mac, along with Eric Clapton, Mitch Mitchell, and Keith Richards.

It was originally meant to be aired on the BBC, but the Rolling Stones withheld it. The Stones contended they did so due to their substandard performance, because they had taken the stage early in the morning and were clearly exhausted.[citation needed] Many others believe that the true reason for not releasing the video was that The Who, who were fresh off a concert tour, upstaged the Stones on their own production

You might inquire at the poster company that I listed on the other poster about "Scrooge".

Also, don't know anything about this group but there are several movie poster forums.  Maybe they can help:

Or this collection of references:

https://www.iorr.org/iorr27/circus.htm    This could be your poster. The poster came out in 1995, but people didn't get them till the end of that year.                                                                                                                                                                                                               "There have been talks of releasing the Rock and Roll Circus for a long time. legal formalities, differences between The Rolling Stones and ABKCO, who ownes the pre-70 catalog of Stones material, the right timing etc. If you check out the CD and the video, you will see is copyrighted in 1995, but it took most of 1996 until we got it.The material on the CD and the video is the same. The CD was out in October in most parts of the world, and the video was launched on Oct. 12 and 13 at the New York Film Festival, with posters, pop corn cups having circus logos etc. Europe had to wait until Nov. 12 to get the video."

There was an elephant poster in 1968 or sign that was never used because the show was cancelled.

" Energy and Persistence conquer all things."
