Totally agree Mart...that's why I noted Dallas/Ft. Worth city area!   But think this would most likely go higher even at Canton!

I'm from the South - but please don't mistake my Southern Manners/Accent/Charm as a weakness!

I have a rocking chair with a face on it LOL. I have to fix the rocker though as one of my sons friends sat in it and broke it.

Here's a piece that a dealer friend of mine is offering for sale. In my opinion, not as unique as the one being discussed. 8)

My estimate is based on auction prices and in todays world, one can get "brown furniture" at rock bottom prices, cheaper than Ikea even which is basically sawdust thats glued together. Never been a better time to buy nor a worse time to sell when it comes to old furniture.

And the Empire revival style is not one that most people want !! Those heads, faces, hands and feet just do not blend well in todays homes !! There are a few diehards though !!  Its a gorgeous piece of furniture and looks well made for the right home !!

I just love the old furniture. I love the way it is made to last, the creativity of it. I am so tired of paying high prices for furniture and having it fall apart. 27 years ago I bought an antique reproduction couch, Dino Mark Anthony, I got it on clearance for 1200.00 dollars. My dad thought I was crazy at the time but that couch has held up like iron, through 3 kids and lots of pets. It still looks great. I have gone through many other couches and payed more money for some of them just to have them fall apart after a few years. I will be surprised if any of the things made today ever make it to antique statis.

Most Golden Oak was created for the masses and was very inexpensive compared to Walnut or Cherry. That is why there is still so much of it hiding in attics and basements. You could by a drop front desk in 1910 for around 2.00. Or even get it for free from the Larkin Company.
In my neck of the woods a piece like that buffet would sell for 500.00 or more depending on the day. The condition is amazing. It was probably around 10.00-12.00 when new.

I agree it is worth more, for sure. You would just have to get it to a big city. Around here that would easily be a thousand dollar piece.

Another thing when it comes to value these days, size. Generally speaking in todays market, smaller is better for many reasons.

Totally agree with other remarks on value if this piece sold in smaller towns, etc.

But in Dallas/Ft. Worth area...the more unusual and pristine...the better.  To have something that you can't find everywhere...the best!  Artsy and yuppie would buy it in a heartbeat!
