Stoneware by Salmon Falls ???
« on: April 03, 2014, 09:01:02 pm »
I wont pretend to know much about this item, even after researching this piece I am still lost. Here is my best guess though, its either a crock or sugar jar.  The pattern looks like the shape of a heart with possibly the Blue Pennsylvania pattern below it, but as I said before I am unable to find the exact pattern or shape in any of the 400+ current completed ebay listings.  In my opinion it shows a lot of age and has a very dark tone (why I think its salt glazed) so it could even be an earlier piece since I am unable to compare it to anything on their current website. Oh yea it stands about 7" tall.

Any additional information would be super.. Thanks All. ;D

Picture file is too big so I'm going with this sorry.

What's the bottom look like? The lid is what makes me skeptical. Sugar may have been locked up back then. I don't think they used a crock for sugar. It creates moisture. Crocks I know either used corks or wooden lids.

greenacres, if the jar was made for a lid ...... then they made a lid to fit it.

But the lids were easily broken, misplaced or lost and thus the reason they are now almost as scarse as hen's teeth iffen you are looking for one. So never pass a "cheapy" one up at a garage sale.

Especially the churn lids with the center hole for the dasher handle. Use Google "Images" to see a variety of them.

Early stoneware canning jars (small) did not have lids because they were "sealed" with wax.

If there is felt on the bottom it is a decorative piece and not intended for food !! Can`t wash that felt !!
