oil on canvas signed by Grant
« on: April 04, 2014, 07:14:53 am »
Hello Again
:)
This rather modern oil on canvas is signed by mysterious Grant. I don`t know if this artist is known and if you
came across similar signature.
It is very detailed and nicely done, not my cup of tea however
style of painting show quite experienced hand.
I would be grateful for any clues about this painting...
:)

Nice picture!!!  Wish I could help...hopefully someone else will chime in.

I always think it is interesting how artist's sign their paintings.  Some sign left (thinking it leads the eye into the picture) and some sign right.
I'm from the South - but please don't mistake my Southern Manners/Accent/Charm as a weakness!

Is there anything you can recognize the street scene from ??  Could be JJ Grant or Gordon Grant !! Could also be a giclee print on canvas !! Hard to tell the original from prints like these !!

Whoever the artist is, they are accomplished in their drafting skills. The perspective layout and vanishing points are well done.

(Although this most likely is not the artist in question, I can't help but be impressed by his work.

Hello
Thanks for your replies
I`m certain that this is oil on canvas not a print,
I added two more pictures,
I`m not sure where is it, but from my journeys I can assume that this might be Paris, Rome, Milan?
Firstly I thought it is St. Patrics Cathedral in London, not sure anymore...I would go for other large city in Europe, judging by the trees on the street and style of the buildings..

Someone who has been to Paris should recognize the landmark building in the background. I am not that someone but hope to be soon. I will try Google street view and see if I can spot it when I have time later on today.

Hi Guys
Thanks a lot,
I`ve been to Paris 8 y ago but as I travel a lot, I have to say that my memory of this place is not as clear as use to be.
However take a look at this pictures guys, its Montmarte by Picasso,
buildings look very similar.
What do you think?

Don`t think so !! No buildings in the background of Pissarro`s painting !!  Buildings look a little different too !!
