House or Castle Shaped Bottle
« on: April 28, 2014, 03:28:22 pm »
I found this bottle over the weekend. It was in a box and very dirty with garden soil. I thought it would be a simple Google search to find lots of them. No luck. The search terms bottle and house are too vague and bring up all kinds of stuff. The wide mouth makes me think it was a pickle bottle or something. Does anyone recognize it as something that was sold in your area at one time? I don;t think it is very old. It is aqua in color and not marked. It is pressed with a pronounced seam and no markings. Thanks

My first thought was syrup bottle if food...or bubble bath if other. (Yes they made bath items in glass in the past.)

It is six inches tall  I am not sure what side would be the front.

Does anything look like a door ??  Assuming that would be the front side !! Wish I could see it better !!

Have found bitters bottles (cabin) and ink bottles (house) but would definitely look at ink bottles!  They had wide mouths and would have defined house features.

Mart, the door is facing you in the first picture. The reverse had the lable which would technically be the front but is very plain compared to the rest.
KC, weren't ink bottle shallow so you could dip a pen? This is about the size of a Heinz Chili Sauce bottle with the same size opening or the size of a 20 oz soda bottle with a wider pry off lid. There must be a more of these out there.

Some were short and some taller frogpatch.

The bottle, from the pics, just doesn't look like a real old piece!

I don't think so either as I said at the beginning. I have handled thousands of pieces of old glass and this looks like it is mid 20th century at best. It is just odd that I can;t find another one. Maybe its a haunted house and had Halloween candy in it.

I'm guessing a candy container.

Well, I have looked everywhere I know of,,including China and can`t find it !!  Go to bottlebooks.com and down at the bottom there is a place that says "ask digger" see if he knows !! I am curious now !!  Didn`t think it would be a hard find !! It looks like a Victorian house with a turret to me but I have checked everything !!  I think !!
Checked Wheaton too and it isn`t theirs as far as I can find !!
Can you take a pic of the bottom ??
