Dresser found in shed
« on: May 05, 2014, 08:46:26 am »
Hi I found this in a shed there's no marks but by the look of the glass and the joinery it looks old is it a keeper or one for the skip

KEEPER.

Late 1800's early 1900's.

Like Mart said, better close ups of hardware, joinery (hinges) and latches.

Was it your shed?  What is the history of it?  Where are you located?  US, Canada, etc...

Oak drawer sides,  turn of the century as KC says, can't really tell from the last pic if the entire piece is oak, but that style is usually solid oak.  The paint job isn't very good so whoever did it probably didn't prep it properly so it shouldn't be too bad to strip the paint off it.  GG

Yes I think it is all oak. What do you think it's worth and how's the best way to sell it . I'm only 26 I'm ready for furniture like this yet  ;D

People in this country (US) love the old worn paint on pieces like that. It would bring $300 - $400 where I live, as is. I would not try to do anything to it. You are not too young for it. I had a whole apartment full of antiques when I was your age and my friends were amazed by my collection. They did not know that I sold the stuff out of my apartment.  It would look really good in the right spot. Just give it a good cleaning and a coat of paste wax over the paint. If you really want to sell it put it up online on whatever site is popular in the UK. One that is trendy like Etsy. Or you could try eBay for local pick up only.

Its a nice little step back dresser and KC has the age about right !!   Frogpatch is right on the price !!  These oak pieces sell quite well here !! Since its free,,its all profit for you !! Don`t know how the Shabby Chic look sells in your area but look at ebay to see !!  Many young people are into the older furniture !!  Some buy and sell and do quite well at it !! Even as a sideline business !!

I bought and sold when I was young because I could carry the stuff back then. Even upstairs.  I had to roll the last piece into my place.
