Need help identifying object

I don't know anything about this object other than it was owned by a plumber, but it could be totally unrelated to plumbing any info would be appreciated thanks.

It is steel isn`t it ?? Heavy ?? Size approx. ??  Does not look like any plumbing tool I have seen and I have seen and used a lot of them !!

It looks to me like it is molded plastic.

And those are not "screw" threads ..... but are "compression" threads ...... like for putting a rubber hose or a plastic sleeve on.

If it is plastic, perhaps it is not a finished product but something that is a step or two away on the production line from being several hose fittings...

But I see no hole/opening other than the center one and the projections seem to be all the same size !!

This object is molded plastic. It weighs just over 2 pounds. it is about 5 inches in height and width.

My grandfather had a manufacturer company. He had a machine we called the octopus.  Hoses connected to a center piece. Air would then pump through and  create pressure like a vice. I wonder if it was meant to be used like that?

If you look close at the projection @ bottom center of the photo you can see the "injection" mold marks that run across the flat center portion and up across the thread area. Those "marks" are also visible on a couple of the other projections.

"HA", ..... maybe it is a connector "joint" for a Jungle Jim "Climbing" Playground toy. ;D ;D

is it threaded or is it for a push fit pipe could be a multi direction coupler for pipe work you would cut the ends off to which direction you wanted hole in the middle could be to insert a bar to hold when tightening just a guess though from a construction manager

All the ridges on the projections look even so I would assume a push fit !!
