1944 Game Set (chess/checkers/dice/poker/backgammon)
« on: May 19, 2014, 02:04:00 pm »
Hi all, first time on the forum!

Inherited this from my grandparents, always though this was a neat set and would love to learn more about it or find out if it's worth anything. It contains chess, checkers, backgammon, a (sealed) deck of cards, and a few sets of dice.

It's a game set (dated 1944) that says "ALL GAME SET #1100, METRO Games" on the outer carddboard box, and "PUBLICKER 1944" on the inner leather case. The sealed deck of cards has a blue stamp that says "U.S. P.C.Co." and "U.S.INT.REV.".

Life was all about a war and entertainment was going to someones home to play board games. I can't put a value on it but it is a nice set that tells a story of a simpler and sacrificial time in our history.

What is written on the cards  means they were made by U.S Playing Card Co. and US Int. Rev. Means taxes were paid on  them !! There was a tax on cards before 1965 !!~

I wondered the same thing ..... and then decided he terminated/deleted his personal "info" as a "member" and thus the server software inserted "guest" under the name on the post.

Member "info" is stored in a separate data file ...... and when the "server" transmits the posted replies to a user's PC .... it always always transmits the "current status" of the poster ....... no matter which "string" of questions and replies the user's PC is displaying.

But the poster's name is never deleted, it always remains with the data record ..... but Ipcress's case it is shown in "black" type instead the clickable "red" hyper-link to his personal info..
