Two antique mirrors
« on: May 27, 2014, 06:14:40 am »
Need help identifying these two mirrors.   These are part of a large group of very nice antiques but I am not at all familiar with either of these two mirrors.  Anyone know anything about these?

Can you take a closer shot of the back ??  Is the glass beveled ??

Unless it is a repro, the bottom one looks like and Empire or Neo Classical Over Mantle Mirror from around 1820-1830 with gold leaf. I have seen a lot of them and this one looks typical. They sell for around 3000.00 if I remember correctly. As Mart asked, seeing the back is paramount to identifying it. Even then it is hard from pictures as repros are often made with old techniques. The other mirror is a mystery to me.

I will get better pictures and check the back... I believe the unusual one has been "reglassed" and not with beveled glass.  The mantle mirror is original... will get photos.

If the glass in the top one has been replaced there may be little value in the frame !! Yes, as Frogpatch said these have been reproduced !! Also look and see what they are made of !! Wood and gesso, plaster or what !!  It may take a close examination !!  Excellent Sugarcube !! Many were similar during the Hollywood Regency era !!
