Is that cord for a phone and what are the things on top for ??  I believe this may be earlier than he 40`s !! The deco era was primarily the 30`s !!

That cord could be for ..... if that is a clock on the left side ..... and/or there is a light in that center pedestal.

Now I remember when I was a young kid at seeing an "electric" cigarette lighter in a neighbors house. It was like 2" or 3" high and 1 1/2" in diameter and sat flat on the table/stand ..... and looked n' worked like a cigarette ligher in a vehicle ..... but with an attached electric cord.

You would pick it up off the table ..... and the "element" in the center would get red-hot to light your cigarette.

The correct term used for these back in the day "Ash Receivers".  (to be proper)

Betting the center piece is a light.  :)  Lights on them were popular!  They sell in the range of $80 - $125.

Here's one light up!

I have never seen a stand set up with a "car lighter" either!  :O  But did see them (like these) with a light up coil for cigars!  Not a pop up like a car.

They made all kinds of electric ones!  Like the following:

Here's a free standing ceramic lighter to get a better idea of what was on a stand alot of the time!
