Oriental Bowl maker and value?
« on: July 26, 2014, 01:51:35 pm »
Hi,

My mom recently picked up this bowl at an estate sale.  Can anyone tell me the maker of the bowl and a value if you have seen one before?

Thanks!

Can you get a good pic of the mark on bottom ?? Can`t see it with the side view !!  From looking at the foot and bottom I think it is pretty new !!  We have some members that may be able to tell from the mark but not me !!  Welcome to the forum !!

Hi, this is modern Japanese imari-style porcelain, but not from Arita. The mark (which sould be turned 90 degrees to the right) is of the Ryuho kiln which seems to be a brand name of the Sanyo Toki company in Toki, Gifu Prefecture .

would be best to start a separate thread rather than adding to an old one !!  spammers sometimes bring old posts forward and few will bother to read them !!  Welcome !!
your bowls are typical of many that were imports and sold outside of Japan !  many were brought here by those in the military !!
i would say this was part of a set since one was repaired,, if one was broken there is no way to match it  !! so to keep a complete set it was repaired !! likely your bowls are from about 1960 to 1970 !!  they did not use pattern names for most of these sets !!
