Can you please tell me about this wine jug basket?

Hi all!

I have found a wine jug basket.  Can you please tell me more about this with approximate date and value?  I love this and would love to know more about it!

Looks to be made of bamboo or a similar cane !! Why do you call it a basket ??  A basket would have a way to put things in and take them out,,does this ??  I didn`t see a door of any type !!

Mart, they used to weave these around the jugs.  Can't tell from the photo if in fact this one had been woven around one (and it broke)nor was just made as a novelty piece.

I know KC,, that's why I asked about the basket theory !!  I have never seen one used like that !! I have seen bird cages similarly made but the staves look too far apart for that !! Thought maybe this was something different !!

The only reason I called it basket because I couldn't think what else to call the material.  It very well could be cane.  The bottom has two removable wood pins and the bottom is removable.  So it does come apart.    I am just clueless on this!

Oh !!  That explains it !!  Can you take a pic of the pins on the bottom so we can see how it is removed ??  And can you take a pic of the top from above it ?? I mean looking down into the top !!

Now that is unusual !! so it was either made for a different use or converted from a jug basket for another use !!
