Miniature White Vases, Japan
« on: August 14, 2014, 05:57:11 pm »
I bought these at an estate sale and don't know anything about them. They look like tiny vases but don't really know what they are or are used for. I'm not even sure if they are antique but the woman I bought them assured me that they were. They are all about 2 1/2 inches tall. Anything will help. Thanks in advance

The "Japan" sticker on bottom indicates they are new items.

To be called an "antique" ..... it should be at least 100 years old.

I do know that having a knick-knack shelf full of items like this was extremely popular during war time up until the late 50's.  Giving small items as gifts during a hard pressed economy was a big deal and these items were proudly displayed.

Okay this is funny...searched history of knickknack shelf and this came up...anyone remember this?  My hubs and I started singing this and now it is stuck in my head!  LOL

This old man, he played one,
He played knick-knack on my thumb;
With a knick-knack paddywhack,
Give the dog a bone,
This old man came rolling home.

This old man, he played two,
He played knick-knack on my shoe;
With a knick-knack paddywhack,
Give the dog a bone,
This old man came rolling home.

This old man, he played three,
He played knick-knack on my knee;
With a knick-knack paddywhack,
Give the dog a bone,
This old man came rolling home.

Do you remember Columbo whistling it while he was busy detecting? ;)

Wow Rauville, I guess I didn't realize that.  Now I will have to go see a couple of reruns and listen for it!  I always liked that show.  I can always picture him in my mind's eye pondering in his Columbo way.
