Found this at the landfill today.

This was sitting in the recycle bin of the landfill today...needless to say it is now with me.

Any ideas if this is an older hammered pot? Chamber pot?

Sure...about 4 1/2" tall. Top is 6 1/2" across and bottom is 7" across.

Yes, that is a keeper. 

All hand made ...... but wouldn't have a clue how old it is.

If you could check the composition of the handle you might be able to date it.

Could have been brought back from Iraq. Before the war the coppersmith souqs (shops) were busy turning out similar looking wares.

This is the area between the upper and lower mount of the handle #7? Or maybe just looks that way.

My first impression, which is even more so now that I see the last picture of it, is that it was made to scoop or ladle.

Nice hefty size!

It also doesn't sit very flat which also would make it lean more towards a scoop in my mind.

I have dealt with several antique Chas Schenk copper pots my concerns would be as follows. Are all the seams sweated/soldered, why did it not possess more patina if left exposed in a landfill? and lastly is it or any part of it magnetic I see the hamered rivets which is a good thing, but I wouldnt dismiss it may have been brought back from overseas. I witnessed many shops making very good looking handmade brass and copper wares.

Either way a very good looking pot and definitely a keeper.

The only area where it may be is the bottom where it flairs out., why did it not possess more patina if left exposed in a landfill? Appears to be tinned copper which would indicate a use with food or something edible !!

Looks like I've found dovetail seams...one runs where the handle is and another is on the bottom in a circular pattern. It's roughly 1/2" in from the bottom bend.

Hard to notice it from the outside but much easier when looking from the inside of the vessel.

Anything else from the landfill?  Once found a landfill from the turn of the century and it was a treasure trove. So much fun.
