valley rose grapefruit juice bottles
« on: August 30, 2014, 08:10:50 am »
You have all been so helpful I have a new one for you.  I found a case of these bottles in the attic and cannot find out anything about them.  I kept the best 2 or 3. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Maybe if it had an applied label it would be worth more. I would check on ebay.

Not sure what Applied label means? I have done tons of searches and can't find anything about this bottle.

Painted. I can't seem to find the brand. How many numbers are on the bottom. That will help date it.

Where did you get the bottle? If was really old it would be embossed. Meaning, the letters are molded in the glass. Originally bottles were blown. No machinery.  Then they went to molds, so there were seams. Seams can tell age also.

My father in law recently passed away and we were cleaning out the house and there was a case of these bottles in the attic.  I saved 3 because all the rest the label's were gone or in really bad shape. It didn't look like anyone or anything had been in the attic for a very long time. From the research I had done I think the Riona products closed in I believe it was 1928?

The seam runs vertically up the bottle( I can't get a good picture of it) but it's runs on the left side of the Y in valley. The cap caught my attention because there's a rubber seal on the inside wall on the cap.  Was pry off cap that was vapor vacuum sealed.

The middle symbol is the bottle mfg. It's an early bottle. The single number is a patent number. When patent numbers started being used they were single digits. Now look at a new bottle. There many numbers.

1866 was the date that patents started being used on bottles. I could sse that bottle would be from the '20's.

I have many bottles. I went to the historic society and bought some books on the area. The history of businesses in the area. Not cheap though.

That's not really feasible for me. These bottles were produced and packed in Texas and I live in Indiana!  But I do thank you for your time!

Mart and I are in Texas.  Will do some sleuthing!

Riona Products operated in McAllen in the 1930's.
