need help identifying an old lamp
« on: September 08, 2014, 03:34:34 pm »
I was wondering if anyone could help me with this one? At first I thought it was a regular lamp but than I noticed there was no place for a light bulb no cord and only those 2 small valves on each side. The ball on top unscrews but only reveals a small hole, the part the ball is screwed into will also twist off the main stand but it's just a hole inside also. I can't find any name anywhere,  the only thing I see is on the bottom of the medal stand it looks like 2 dragons facing each other.

I was wondering if anyone could help me with this one?  I found this lamp and it has no cord only the 2 valves at the top. I can't find a name the only mark I see is on all 4 sides of the base it looks like 2 dragons facing each other. The ball on top does unscrew but only reveals a small hole. The cap that the ball screws into also unscrews but once again is a small hole. It stands about 22" tall. The body seems to be made of porcelain or ceramic material. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Your lamp is missing a few parts such as pictured below.

To find more examples just search for ..... "2 bulb pull chain table lamps"

That makes a lot more sense!  I just couldn't figure out how it would have worked.  THANK YOU!

Can't tell very well from your one image , but perhaps your lamp has been stripped of parts (electrical) & is now ready for a full rewire job , candib ?

I'm a little confused , since you refer to 'valves' in your lamps' construction , which would indicate a gas lamp (non-electrical) , also stripped of parts & ready for a rebuild .

What does the bottom look like ??  Anything written there ??  Can you take the top piece off and try to get close ups of both sides ??  Does the conduit fit correctly in the lamp base ??  No wiggle,,fits snugly ??  The base looks like a regular lamp but that's way too much space between the base and the top !!

A brownie point for you Cogar !! Was reading the other post and they said valves which completely blew me off course !!   Was trying to figure what the heck valves were doing on a lamp !!

Mart, it needs a "tall" lamp shade with a "center" support like this one.

Remove the "ball" on top, put the shade on, put "ball" back on and tighten it up.

It has to be wide enough to clear the bulbs by 2 or 3 inches unless you use those new "cool" fluorescent bulbs. ;D ;D

 ;D ;D YUP, me too.

When I first read his "valve" comment ... I thought ..... "OH, my, my, ... an NG table lamp".

But then I enlarged the picture and realized what he was referring too. :D

A "double burner" of this vintage would have been a neat find, to wit:

That type of socket cluster often had a shallow conical heavy shade of glass or other materials. The shade would sit flush against the top plate and a second cap would sandwich the shade to the top. The earlier slag glass lamp shades were held that way. It is hard to imagine what shade was originally fitted to this piece but I feel it was more than just a plain fabric.
