Spring rockers

Is there any writing/stamping in the metal?  If so what does it say?

I know there were a few made that were worth quite a bit!

I have looked for this particular style Windsor chair for two days !! The arm style says late 30`s or early 40`s but can`t find it anywhere !!  Really not sure what to call it !!  Fan back, wing back, three paneled Windsor style or what ??  Can`t find that spring mech. either !!  Perhaps there is a patent date on the spring mechanism ??  There were some unusual Windsor spring rockers made as well as spring seats !!

Actually, the "spring mechanism" appears about the same as on the eBay rocker that I had linked to.

I couldn't find any writing on the springs. I was clueless what to call that style of back as well. It's like a Windsor wingback chair...

The one Rauville linked to was made by Frank & Son Furniture Co. They incorporated in 1926 and yours is very similar to their style although many makers made similar chairs it is the back style as you said that is hard to find !!  Does it look like there was ever some stenciling across the back ?? 1960 through the 70`s many companies were making chairs similar to the Hitchcock chairs which were popular !!

It does look like there are decals or something under the paint. I can see a raised design.

I would consider this to be a type of platform rocker but so many times they are now confused with gliders.

Here is a good article about the springed platforms....maybe you can send a note to this person (since it appears they have an expertise in this area) and they can help you out?!

An older gentleman I once knew was a retired carpenter. His “hobby” during his retirement years was to make “platform” rockers and give them away to people he liked. They were all “lathe turned” wood construction ….. except for the “springs” and upholstered seat.

And I don't think he ever "signed" one ..... so iffen you ever acquire one of them you will never know who made it unless the previous owner tells you.
