needlepoint armchair
« on: October 17, 2014, 07:28:23 pm »
Hello my name is William, I'm new to this genre so please bear with.
I recently obtained this chair, having trouble ascertaining value, to make decision
on how much time to invest. The chair is a Karpen, made in 1929,original needlepoint and finish
needs a little TLC ! The bottom strapping is blown out, a few minor issues with needlepoint, other than that it's rock solid.
Would appreciate any input.

Hi there and welcome to the group !!
Can you take another pic so we can see the chair itself,,legs, feet, arms ect !!  The upholstery is secondary and doesn`t tell us much !!

Please take a picture of the legs/feet up close and a side view of the arm.  Also a view of the underside of the chair.
I'm from the South - but please don't mistake my Southern Manners/Accent/Charm as a weakness!

I was not sure that this upholstery was original but looks like they did use similar designs !!  The chair is in the typical art nouveau style of the time !!  Value depends on the condition of the chair and upholstery !!  As-is probably about $100. to $150. on a good day !!

I'm presently repairing the strapping (using all original mtls)
I haven't decided if I'm going to sell, but I'm running out of room at home, it's a beautiful piece
one of a kind. I suppose for the right money I would sell it, so I could buy something else : )
Have a wonderful day !!

Use a bit of Old English Dark oil on the wood and that will hide and blend any scratches and make it look good !! Problem with this chair is the upholstery,, not many homes it would work in !! Furniture in general is down and selling much of it is difficult !! 20th century furniture sometimes takes a while to sell !!  Just too much of it made !!
