Mart, wondering if this could be a Belgium set?

They made reproductions of these items in the 60's to 70's from China.  Just can't tell from the picture posted much about the pieces enough to even take a stab at it.

Hello, a friend  on another site asked me to post the pictures of the inkwell set to see if anyone had any info on it.. I'm hoping that someone will know the maker, a dotted oval with EC and I think a D.(which is on the side of the wooden blotter) Also the ll.l mark on inside of bottom of inkwell when I unscrewed it from the dish/plate. I will ad more pictures if anyone would like more. Any information as all I know is it's 19th century.. and not sure if it is cloisonne.

Thank you !  Hopefully there is someone that could tell me a little more about what kind and maybe help with makers mark. I have had people tell me it was Champleve and others say cloisonne', I know absolutely nothing other than the previous owner said it was 19th century possibly french.  The person I was talking to on the other site that suggested I posted on this forum has been very helpful educating me on champleve and cloisonne'.. Thank you for your help !!

Here is this picture (hopefully) with a better view of the EC and maybe D..on the side of the wooden blotter. Although I could be wrong on any of those letters..

For some reason I'm not so sure its French. I will continue looking. I'm not sure I can help.

Is this your listing on Craigs List?  (Same set as above)
http://albany.ru.craigslist.org/atq/4817373906.html

If so, Russia made sets very similar to French sets.  AND there is a whole lot of Russian written around this!

Does the inkwell (aka encrier)  have a hinged lid?  If so, check the hinges for any markings!

Your tray has a pen holder!  Nice!  Also check these carefully for any markings.  Same thing on the stamp box? Can you take a picture of the box open please.  If it has an attachment on the lid it is for holding sealing wax and seal.

Another good search word is Champleve to help you look through endless pictures.

Yes it is the set on CL. Is that a good price,  I have had others tell me I should of asked for more.  Here is a pic of the stamp box, which does not have a attachment on the lid. As for the hinged lid on the inkwell, there might be some sort of marking on it. Although it has a lot of caked on ink(Im assuming it is ink and ?) Im afraid to clean it off, and have no idea how  or with what to wipe it clean with out damaging the item. Any suggestion?

I also know that the lady we recieved it from was in her 80's and said it was her families passed down to her. It was a estate sale.

Correct me if I am wrong...but the ad reads it is selling for ONE DOLLAR when I read it.  NOT A GOOD PRICE TO SELL FOR!  :)

Mart, what does it show to you?

Could be wrong but I am betting the letters are initials for original or previous owner.  Haven't seen any foundry/makers marks like that.  AND it appears from the pictures they are etched and not "molded" from original.

Could you please post a picture of the ink well.  They generally had a porcelain liner in them on the finer sets.

Where are you located at?

Think this pic (from your Craigs Listing) lets us know that it is a later piece...and not top of the line French with the screws.
